  9. This a the light version of Tiger (which can be found under
  10. the name of automate8e in the Emperor package, on aminet:dev/c)
  11. Both  were made with Emperor, the .project file generated
  12. by Emperor is also included. A french translation is also
  13. included.

  15. No installation, just put the drawer wherever you want.
  16. Versions for 68020, 68030, 68040 and 68060 (fpu required for all)
  17. are provided, but you can compile any version you would
  18. like (with StormC 3).

  20. This cellular automata was part of my diploma work in Biology.
  21. It is supposed to illustrate the creation and evolution of
  22. a certain type of vegetation structures called tiger bush,
  23. which can be found in various dry countries (Africa, Central
  24. America or Australia).
  25. The creation and evolution depends mostly on two parameters:
  26. the slope and the rainfall. The slope must be low (less than
  27. 1.5%) and the rain must be concentrated over a few months only
  28. (typical from dry countries). Another important parameter are
  29. the termites. They build their houses which have a big impact
  30. on the landscape and the slope (you can imagine termite-hills 
  31. 5 meters high in a nearly flat landscape). As they are getting 
  32. old and forsaken by the termites, the termite-hills are being
  33. degraded by rain, wind or any other ecological parameter. Then
  34. the material can be moved up to a certain radius (usually 10 
  35. meters).
  36. In the cellular automata, you can change the slope, rainfall,
  37. number of termite-hills, their maximal radius after destruction,
  38. as well the x and y sizes of the simulation, plus the number
  39. of generations you want the simulation to run.

  41. Contrary as in Tiger (the full version), the images are not
  42. saved on disk. When in Tiger all the generations where kept
  43. in memory to allow to play them later, in Tiger-light only
  44. 2 generations are kept in memory. The memory consumption
  45. is thus very small. With Tiger-light you can make it compute
  46. as long as you want, but you won't be able to have an animation
  47. at the end.
  48. Another difference is that you can't put termites. They wouldn't
  49. give a nice tiger bush anyway (and I'm not motivated to work on 
  50. that, it's just giving tiger bush all the time, that's a bit 
  51. frustrating even though it was supposed to do so).
